Ibiza isn’t just for the clubbers, as I found out last week. Being just two and half hour’s flight away, it’s a great option for a relaxing short break with temperatures on average for the first week of October at 25°C! I can’t believe that we actually had a holiday were we barely moved from our sunbeds – so unlike us but it was so needed.
We stayed in Portinatx, a small, unspoilt resort in the beautiful north of the island, about 45 minutes from the airport. It’s a peaceful spot with plenty of hiking trails, a handful of restaurants and a couple of supermarkets, making it ideal for couples or families with young children.
If you do feel like leaving your sunbed, I’d definitely recommend a visit to one of Ibiza’s famous hippy markets. We explored one of the oldest and largest, held in Es Canar on Wednesdays from 10am to 7pm.
With over 450 stalls selling handmade and locally designed jewellery, fashion, leather goods, ceramics and treasures from around the world, it’s a vibrant experience. Plus, there are plenty of spots to grab food, drinks and ice cream while enjoying live entertainment from street performers.
Our stay at Sandos El Greco, a simple 4-star, adult-only hotel, was just right. Although the room was on the small side, the balcony offered lovely sea views.
We upgraded to the Royal Elite service, which gave us access to a private sunbathing terrace with a bar serving premium drinks and snacks throughout the day — a fantastic touch. The all-inclusive option included the main buffet restaurant, and for stays of 5 nights or more, you could enjoy a meal at Xaloc, the à la carte restaurant.
Ibiza might not be the first place that springs to mind for a relaxing getaway, but trust me, it works beautifully!
